I can't believe that Priya has already been making the world a happier place for an entire year now! People always say how fast time flies, and they are so right. In some ways, Priya is starting to look more like a child now than a baby. Where on earth did that little snuggly infant disappear to?
I want to take a second to share a few tidbits about Priya at 12 months. We haven't gone in for her one year check up yet, but I will post her stats when we have them.
Favorite food: Just about anything but tomatoes (which makes mommy so sad). Of course, she is really hit-and-miss on everything- it all depends on her mood. Zucchini, blueberries, bread, and ice cream are always winners.
Favorite song: She loves Michael Jackson, and Namama's disco music. She likes Primary songs, and for a while, she would sing along to "Old McDonald Had a Farm."
Favorite things to do: She loves to go down the stairs on her bum, and loves to climb on anything. She loves opening and shutting cupboards (her poor fingers have not survived that very well), and loves reading books (as long as it is on her terms, and she gets to turn the page). She loves swimming, being outside, walks, and spending time with daddy and Namama. She loves "helping" mommy do the laundry and dishes. She also loves to do anything she has been told not to do.
Things she does not like: Watching TV, sharing her toys with other kids, getting her hair washed in the bathtub, changing her diapers, tomatoes, people squeezing her cheeks, and being told "no."
Words she says: Ball, bottle (baba)- this was her first word, Daddy, Mama (but only if she is mad), EIEIO from old McDonald had a Farm (she also says eieieieieie when she gets really mad- she sounds like a bad karate movie), uh-oh (when she drops something- usually on purpose), no, and tree. She also pretends to sneeze- complete with an "achoo!" and throwing her head back. So cute!
Movements she makes: She waves (both by opening and closing the hand and waving her arm), plays patty-cake and peek-a-boo, points her forefinger and touches other people's forefinger when someone says, "ET phone home," shakes her head no, blows kisses, says "I don't know" with her hands, points, does the indian war cry thingy, and puts her hand out when she wants something. She is close to walking, and can sometimes stand on her own for a bit before she decides to crawl. She has also started bear crawling a lot (and likes to rub her forehead on the floor as she does it). She used to throw her arms in the air when we would say "so big," but she won't do that anymore.
Favorite toys: balls (any type, shape, or size), her "Toby" dog, balloons, her monster stuffed animal, her new cell phone toy from her birthday, shoes, her little car she can ride on, her swimming pool, and her "patch" dog. Things that she likes that she really shouldn't play with- pens, markers, and chapstick, rocks (which she affectionately calls "balls"), the TV remote, and telephones.
It was so much fun celebrating Priya's birthday! I think I was more excited for her birthday than I have ever been for any of mine! I had butterflies and everything!
We decided to have a little get together with family for her birthday. We had a potluck dinner (thanks to everyone who helped out and brought food) with BBQ chicken as the main dish. We opened presents, then Priya got her first "official" taste of sugar. She got her very own cake and ice cream (the ice cream was definitely her favorite). She loved it!
We were planning on swimming afterwards, but the weather didn't cooperate. Uncle Jim and Aunt Lisa were nice enough to bring fireworks, so we brought Priya home, scrubbed her down (oh my gosh, she was a mess), put her to bed, and finished off celebrating her birthday by doing fireworks without her!
We are so blessed to have her in our lives. She is such a wonderful little girl! I never realized a parent's love could be this strong! She amazes us!
Here are some pictures from her party (click on the photo gallery link for more pictures):
